The Topkapı Palace Darphane-i Âmire Restoration Museums, established as part of a project led by the Presidency of National Palaces, opened in Istanbul on 24 October 2026. Located in the first courtyard of Topkapı Palace, the historic complex now houses five museums following restoration and adaptive reuse works.

10,500 artefacts across five museums

The Darphane-i Âmire Restoration complex, where the Ottoman Empire’s coin-minting activities took place, covers approximately 17,000 square metres. The Palace Porcelain Museum, Museum of Calligraphy, Esliha-i Hümayun Museum, Mint and Industrial Tools Museum, and Map Museum present a total of 10,500 artefacts to visitors.

The collections of palace porcelain, outstanding examples of calligraphy, historic weapons, maps and production tools offer different perspectives on the history of art, science and manufacturing. Displaying tools that reflect the Mint’s former function within its historic production spaces also highlights the relationship between the buildings and their collections.

MEFA’s contribution to preserving cultural heritage

Through the restoration works it undertook as part of the project, MEFA contributed to preserving the historic buildings and sustaining them through new uses. The works at Darphane-i Âmire Restoration hold particular significance for the company in passing cultural heritage on to future generations.

Proud to have played a role in reopening these historic buildings to visitors, MEFA thanks the Presidency of National Palaces, the specialists involved in the project, its colleagues and all its business partners.
