On 26 March 2013, MEFA signed a contract with the Rectorate of Abdullah Gül University for the conversion of the historic Sümerbank textile factory in Kayseri into a university campus.
From industrial heritage to a university campus
Designed by Russian architect Ivan Nikolaev, the Sümerbank textile factory holds an important place in Turkey’s industrial history. The conversion project aims to give the historic complex a new role in education and research.
Preserving the character of historic buildings
Prepared by Emre Arolat Architecture, the architectural scheme adapts the existing buildings to new uses while preserving their distinctive features. The design considers the city’s cultural and historical values alongside the economic and social dimensions of the transformation.
Building on MEFA’s experience in educational facilities, the project brings industrial heritage conservation and the needs of contemporary university life together within a single campus.
